When Should a Final Year Student Start Making Their Resume?
Most final year students start their resume too late and miss early placement drives. Here is the exact timeline and what to do each month to be placement-ready.
If you are in your final year and you have not started your resume yet, you are already late.
Not catastrophically late, but late enough that you are missing early placement opportunities, pre-placement offers (PPOs), and internship-to-hire conversions that your classmates who started earlier are already landing.
Here is the timeline that actually works.
The Month-by-Month Resume Readiness Plan

Start building your resume at the beginning of your 7th semester (for a 4-year degree). Most campus placement drives begin in the first two months of the final year, and companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro often close their entire hiring cycle before December.
6th Semester (April to May): Build the Foundation
This is when you should be finishing your strongest projects. Do not start a new project in the final year expecting it to be impressive. Your 7th semester will be consumed by internship applications and placement prep, and there will not be enough time to build something worth showing.

The moment your 7th semester begins, so does the placement season for most Indian colleges. Companies start sending requirements to Training and Placement (T&P) cells from August onward.

November to December: Off-Campus Applications
If you did not get placed through campus placements, or if your college does not have strong recruitment, November to December is when you move to off-campus applications.
